The Buttonbush is a wetland shrub and can grow in riparian areas that are inundated for at least part of the year. The Buttonbush produces white flowers between June and September and produces nut-like fruit between September and October. Buttonbush shrubs are important to wood ducks for brood rearing and hiding.
